So here’s the deal with my hair. This is what it used to look like. And this is what it looks like now (see photo). I’ve been wanting to go short since the weather got nice and since I dyed my hair platinum over a year ago and then dyed it back and grew it megalong and ratty. My friend Tiffany usually cuts my hair and she offered to do it for free if I’d let her take photos for her portfolio. I agreed, so she sent out an email to her friend Liz who does makeup and our mutual friend Marilis who styles shoots for Nightlife and take photos for her party pic/streetstyle blog The Pregnant Goldfish. We picked a day to meet up and exchanged photos over the internet of cuts we liked.
When the day arrived, I dragged half my wardrobe over to Tiffany’s apartment and we ordered chinese and got started. Over the course of 5 hours, we created 3 different looks: long hair, medium, and chin length, with 3 types of makeup. Marilis styled my outfits and she took photos of each look against a white wall.
We livesteamed the entire day since it was a pretty strange thing to do and we thought people might be entertained. We had about 50 viewers. Unfortunately, I failed to simultaneously record the livestream so I couldn’t make a time lapse afterwards like I wanted to.
The idea was to continue the shoot with Day Two a few days later, but it became impossible to organize another shared day off between the four of us. Meanwhile, I got sick of walking around with what I felt looked like a Katie Holmes-do, so Tiffany cut my hair to the length it is now at the end of a shift together at our work.
Marilis is busy editing the first day’s photos (and working like 5 jobs) so I’ll post those once they’re ready. And then next week we’re planning to take photos with my hair the length it is now before we go for the Final Cut, an Agyness Deyn-type super short style. I’m excited!
p.s. That’s my friend Andrew in the photo, at a house show at his place last weekend. He plays guitar and bass in Brave Radar.
