“We imagined a project that would synthesize the tactility of the art object with the non-linear mode of viewing of hypertext. It would have the content and the fetishistic aestheticism of a magazine, but it would not be bound. It would come in a box. It would take advantage of being unbound to present media traditionally unavailable in a magazine format. This is what we’ve made: an internet for your hands.”
- Tess Edmonson, preface to Palimpsest 01
This sounds really cool. It’s basically a beautiful box of limited edition multimedia objects, published periodically, including audio, video, text, images, and textiles. I’m looking forward to checking it out at their launch party in a few weeks.

Palimpsest Magazine 01 - the inaugural issue - is curated by Danielle St-Amour and Tess Edmonson, and exists in an exclusive run of only 50 issues. 01 features fine art works by Chris Foster, Matt King, Peter Thompson, Aisling Macken and Stacey Ho; writing by Neil Holyoak and Tess Edmonson; video works by Willie Brisco, Tobias Rochman, Brendan Reed, Christopher Mills and Kevin Hainey; and a mixtape-cassette curated by Shub Roy of Grand Trine/Pink Noise and Mark Fragua of Wax Attic/Ultrathin.

Launch party at Drawn and Quarterly (211 rue Bernard Ouest) in Montreal on Thursday, November 12th, 7-10pm.
